During my research on other schools, RED definitely came out on top. I love the RED environment, teaching style, and having such a great support system from others.
Learning the foundation skills of HTML & CSS was awesome, I learned a lot and it provided me enough information to ready myself to learn more in the field. I definitely encourage others to take the program, even if you have a small interest just dive in, you won’t regret it. It is a great investment for yourself and your career.

Blaze Kroeger
TA, Web Developer

Fresh to Web Development but definitely not the world of tech, Blaze is part of the first cohort of RED Academy graduates. Immersed in computers since the age of 3 and casual hardcore gamer PC since the age of eight, Blaze has always had a great interest in programming and web development. Where he lacks years of experience, he makes up for with his endless curiosity and desire to learn. As a recent RED student, Blaze brings the valuable student point of view to the instructor team. The work and contribution he had to his class at RED reflects his impact in the workforce. Blaze is a fan of mini dance parties and team coding sessions and is one of the friendliest people we know.

FAQs

What's the difference between full-time and part-time programs?

The part time program is a gentle but thorough introduction to HTML and CSS. It’s designed for people who have very little experience with computers and the internet. Or people who are looking to update their resume.

The full-time program is intensive, and is designed to give students the requisite experience for finding work as a professional front-end web developer when they complete the program.

What are the prerequisites? What do I need to know about coding before I start?

You don’t need any previous experience with HTML or CSS to take the program, but you’ll be better off if you have some familiarity with these things beforehand as the pace of the course is quite brisk. We strongly recommended students work through some introductory tutorials on CodeAcademy.com before starting the program. It will take approximately 8 hours to complete.

What will I be able to do by the end of this course?

You will be able to build a mobile-first, responsive website that uses version control with Git.

Do I need a Mac for this course?

RED definitely recommends that you use a MacBook for web development, but it is not a requirement for the part-time course. We can accommodate Windows machines in this course.

Will I learn anything about building WordPress themes in this class?

No, this class focuses entirely on front-end development using HTML and CSS. Building custom WordPress themes requires some knowledge of PHP, which is a server-side scripting language.

However, if you have an existing theme that you want to make some minor style-related changes to, at the end of this course you should feel reasonably empowered to jump into the style.css file for the theme and make your desired changes to the CSS.

Applying For A Visa

You do not need a study permit if you plan to take a course or program in Canada that lasts six months or less. You must complete the course or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.

Most travelers need a valid entry document such as an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or a visa to visit Canada. This will depend on your citizenship or your situation.

All visa-exempt foreign nationals except for U.S. citizens need an eTA to enter Canada as tourists. The eTA authorizes to visit Canada for up to six months or until the date prescribed by a border services officer upon arrival to Canada.

Applying for an eTA is a simple, inexpensive (CAD$7) process that takes just a few minutes to complete online. In addition to a fast process, the eTA is electronically linked to a traveler’s passport and is valid for five years or until the passport expires.

Travelers with passports from visa-required countries and territories need a visitor visa (temporary resident visa) to enter Canada.

A visa is an official document that is inserted inside a passport giving permission for you to come to Canada.

Payment Process

The Essentials Part-time Programs cost $1,900 for 30 hours of instruction. A deposit of $950 ($250 non-refundable) is required upon acceptance into the program to reserve one’s place. Full payment is due before the program begins.
