Testimonials

Kit Walton, UX Designer student Vancouver
Kit Walton
Winter 2016 Graduate

During my time at RED while working on my UX project for Shopidarity (app for connecting users to go in on sharing bulk purchases), I became a member of the team and now have Creative Director and co-founder status. We got funding from Van City to incorporate as a Co-op, as well as full tuition to take this project through Spring’s Kick business incubator program, which was held on RED’s second floor.

FAQs

Do I need a design background?

No. You will gain introductory skills in graphic design and understanding of design guidelines.

Do I need to have MAC for this program?

We strongly recommend for you to use MAC in the foundation program as most of the UX tools are mac-only. However we had a few students that use PC and still finished their projects successfully.

What is the difference between the Foundation and Professional Programs?

Our Foundation Program was designed as a hands-on introduction to the field of study. You will work on two major projects throughout the duration of the program. Although it’s a great beginning for somebody who wants a design career, two projects are not enough to build a design portfolio, which is required for any design job application.

If you are looking to change careers and build a portfolio, we strongly recommend taking one of our Professional Programs, which are either 12-week or 24-week full time programs. They were designed to produce entry-level professionals, who can hit the ground running, and play a meaningful role within a company from day one. The Professional Programs include 480 hours of instruction and lab time in the school, and will involve at least 5 major projects, and include significant professional development time to prepare you for life in the tech industry.

How is RED different?

RED stands for Real Education and Development. We offer a totally unique approach to learning; our school more closely resembles a real-world agency than what you might expect in a traditional learning environment.

Our tech community, however, is really our secret sauce: by taking a course at RED, you become a part of our extended tech family and get access to industry professionals, alumni, and other partners.

What kind of students take your classes?

Our students are all across the board, from cognitive science students who are learning to code to dancers turned UX designers and everyone in-between. We have a lot of students who are recent graduates, people looking to switch careers, and entrepreneurs wanting to gain the technical skills to turn their ideas into reality.

Do you have a payment plan or any financing options?

Yes we do. After paying your deposit, there are two options:
1. The remainder of your tuition is paid in full 30 days prior to the term start date. Early bird discounts are available if you pay the first 50% within 60 days of the course start date.

2. The remainder of your tuition is paid in three instalments: 1/3 is paid 30 days prior to the start date of the term, 1/3 is paid on the term start date, and 1/3 is paid 30 days after the term start date. For part-time courses the financing option is +$100 and for full-time it’s +$300, with the fee attached to the first payment.

RED is an affiliate partner with Lendful, a Vancouver based lending company that provides a specific type of loan for people that are looking for short-term technical training.
