RED User Experience Designer Alumni: Meet Jill Greenwood
As part of our RED Academy Alumni series, we are featuring Jill Greenwood, who recently graduated from our User Experience Designer program.
What were you doing before RED?
I was working in Public Policy with Government Relations.
What are you doing now?
I am a UX Designer at Kabuni.
What interested you in the UX Designer program?
I had no prior knowledge coming into the program, after researching about RED and seeing other programs offered, I knew that this would be the right fit for me. I was excited to gain various skills in UX where I would learn to gather data, solve problems, research users, and be able to apply empathy in a new way.
What was the most important thing you learned at RED?
I used to feel guarded before with my work and never let anything out because I wanted it to be perfect. I learned that making mistakes early was not a big deal and making changes helped me to unleash my creativity.
What was your experience like at RED?
Incredible, I felt really safe. Although, it was new territory there was a sense of familiarity and comfort. RED definitely lives up to their values, the energy was always positive and felt very family oriented. Taking my shoes off and being comfortable everyday was awesome, it was nice to be part of shaping a community.
What would you say to someone thinking about taking the program?
The cost is totally worth it, there is a huge return on investment and you won’t regret it. There is a huge demand for UX Designers and the skills are transferable.
How has the program helped you in your job?
It provided me a realistic expectation of what I would be doing, how broad my role would be, what team dynamics would be like, and what challenges to expect.
What are you most excited for at Kabuni?
The ecosystem of technology I get to work with from the website, the app, community portal, and holographic technologies.
