RED Alumni: Meet Chris Kaufman
Recently we had our first round of students graduate from our part-time Digital Marketing Foundation program. While it was bitter sweet to say goodbye, we couldn’t be happier to work with such an awesome group who were eager to learn from the get-go. They made incredible progress over the ten week course, including RED Academy student Chris Kaufman. We caught up with this alumni to learn what happened once he left our doors. Turns out, he was gearing up to start his new job at Bond Brand Loyalty, where he’ll be working with their client Ford of Canada.
What is your previous education experience?
I have two degrees, one in Arts and the other in Education.
What did you decide to enrol in RED’s Digital Marketing part-time program?
I was working in an entry level digital marketing position, but I knew I had gaps in skills and knowledge that prevented me from taking on a bigger role. When I saw that RED was offering a part-time evening course, it was perfect for my schedule because I could still work during the day.
What “gaps” did you need help with most?
Google adwords and analytics. I had very basic knowledge, and trying to learn on my own was really difficult. It’s a big topic that needs an expert to help you steer through it.
How many jobs did you apply for after your graduated?
Just one, and I got it right away.
Would you recommend this course?
Yes. This program really helped with things that I didn’t know and gave me the credentials I needed. I now have in-demand skills that employers are looking for. There’s no way I could have got this job had it not been for this program. It was the only way I could move from a low level position into a higher one, which I’m in now.
Do you have advice for those thinking of going back to school?
Just inquire. The RED staff are really easy going and easy to talk to. If you tell them what your goals are, they’ll customize and accommodate your needs.

He originally started his career as a classically trained musician and sound engineer, before switching to the tech industry where he has been working for the past 15 years. While he sounds British, don’t let that accent fool you; his roots are Dutch, and he calls Amsterdam his hometown.
Also the founder of Drive Digital, one of Western Canada’s biggest digital agencies, Colin is inspired by watching people create and seeing them find fulfillment in doing something they believe in. Colin is excited by the idea that the Internet connects us all, increasing transparency and accountability. He strongly believes that purpose is a bigger driver in people than profit, which will lead us to a better, fairer, more conscious world – values that dictate the foundation of RED.
